New Discoveries…

I like Margaritas!  They seem to be a nice refreshing drinks for the summer!

And, I finally learned how to use my Cuban Coffee Pot to make lattes at home!!!

This little pot is wonderful and makes expresso so well…but, it just took me until today to get it right!  YES!

Ten on Tuesday…04/24/12…

My friend, Carole, has returned home from vacation – I’m sure that is the reason that she picked this topic for today:

10 Good Things About Coming Home from a Vacation

1.  Getting to sleep in my own bed!  I miss my bed when I travel.  It knows my body and I feel safe and secure in it.

2.  My cat, Killian, treats me like I am returning royalty. We both seem to miss each other a lot.

3.  Having my own bathroom back – I’m fussy that way.

4.  I hate paying for every bag of peanuts, chips, soda, or whatever I want to snack on – that why I’m glad to see my kitchen.

5.  I can walk around on my apartment complex property and feel totally safe…not always that way on a hotel property.

6.  I don’t have to shed the pjs if I want a cup of coffee or a rootbeer – they are in my own kitchen.

7.  Things that I enjoy (like movies, cds, cassettes, books) are at my fingertips…I don’t just have to carry one along with me. (And, that usually means a book!)

8.  My own shampoo, conditioner, etc. - as I age I like having those type of items that I like handy.

9.  Getting to see and be with friends and neighbors.

10.  Catching up on e-mail on my desktop.  I’m not all that fond of my laptop – find it harder to use.

Bethlehem and Littleton…

Bethlehem is such a cute little village – located in the White Mountains or North Woods (never sure as the region it is in – just know it is a beautiful area).  There are a couple of places that I really enjoy visiting when I am there.

First up is WREN – Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial Network:  They have some awesome items that are made by members and sold in their store.  I love going there…gives me such inspiration to continue being creative in my own way!

Second:  The Maia Papaya – such a cool coffee shop…they have very good “latte’ and their breakfast sandwich is so good.  They are located right next to the Post Office…

Now Littleton is a bit different – it’s bigger and has a lot of the “big box stores” – but the downtown is so quaint!  Lots of cool places to visit there:

The Village Bookstore is always worth the stop!  And, on the bottom floor is the quilt store which recently moved from Whitefield. The New Hampshire League of Craftsmen has the right side of the bottom floor (if you are going down the stairs inside the bookstore)…another great place to rejuvenate your creative juices!

The Yarn Garden is one of my favorite places to go – lots of cool yarn and such nice folks own and work there.  It’s always fun to spend a bit of time there!

For food  – there is The Littleton Diner and the Thai restaurant – it’s the first Thai place that I’ve ever eaten and it really is good.

So there you have it - a look at another area that is in My Corner of the World…

Sunday…

Dreary!  Wet!  Ugly!

The weather is  miserable!  It’s been raining since yesterday!  And, even though we need the rains to wet our forests – high rate of fire risk lately – I do wish the sun would come out just to warm up the dampness!

But, still it is a good day for knitting, looking at magazines, and reading!

Knitting:  Some dishclothes, a beautiful scarf, an afghan (that a neighbor commissioned), and maybe socks (they aren’t on needles yet).

Magazines;  Real Simple and Food Network Magazines

Reading:  The Obamas

Pictures will follow in a few days!

Meet April…

My friends, Jimmy and his mom, Nancy, invited me to Easter dinner this year.  They enjoy sharing a meal with friends and she is a wonderful cook.

After dinner, they gave me a present –

Isn’t she adorable!  It is very hard to find a stuffed animal that is a sheep!  And, they know how much I love decorating with sheep!

This week …

Hopefully, the town of Greenland and the State of New Hampshire citizens will be able to get back to life as it was before the Chief of Police was killed.  Well, maybe not quite to the way it was – but close.  This week brought such sadness to all of our citizens.

Today marked the funeral for Chief Maloney.  Leading the procession which was over a mile long were 300 motorcycle police officers … Speeches were many and from both civic leaders and family…

It was a heart-wrenching week here – even though it wasn’t my town or my police chief – it spoke to all of us as to how easily life can slip away – and how much goes on the line when one choses a life of service and protection of others.  We should all be thankful for those who serve as police and fire personnel.

Rest in Peace, Chief…

Tired Tonight…

Seems like today was a long day – but, it really wasn’t. Think I just ate too much when I went out with my quilt guild members for our final meeting. I’m going to miss them…we decided to disband…and it is a bit sad.  Maybe that’s why I’m tired.  (edited to add the last part.)
