Yesterday was a fun day – got to spend it working on some quilting projects…
First up:
My Cornish Quilters Charity block is the above star block. We made this one 12-1/2 inches instead of our normal size which is about 10-1/2 inches. I made two blocks and they will be going into a quilt for the mother of one of our members. She furnished the white and we each furnished some sort of blue fabric. They turned out really nice.
Second up:

January – Block No. 1 - Asterisk Block
January – Block No. 2 – Wonky Pound Sign Block
Both of these blocks were a bit of a challenge for me…I am not used to just cutting fabric and adding fabric to it and then cutting again … but I love the way the blocks turned out.
This will be a scrappy quilt – but each of the fabrics I use will have some orange in them. The white fabric will be used throughout the quilt.
2012 – A New Start…

I am thrilled to see 2011 go! It was a complicated year! One filled with doctor visits, Emergency Room visits, and a stay for a week in my local hospital – due in part to my asthma and COPD plus my lower back which just seemed to decide to create havoc with my body.
The asthma and COPD seem to be under control with the new medicine (Singulair)…plus I will be seeing a pulmanologist on January 4th…
The lower back is coming along well and I try to do the exercises as prescribed…It will take a little time…
And, I hope not to have to be visiting my doctor or the ER this year!!!!
No resolutions this year…but that does not mean that I do not have any plans and ideas for the New Year.
Last year I managed to read 71 books…and found some new authors (Jodi Picoult, Mary Higgins Clark, Carlene Thompson – to name a few). The plan continues to remain in the 52 Books in 52 Weeks group on Ravelry…
Block of the Month (Quilting) - well, actually, I was not going to participate in my local quilt store’s BOM program this year…then they made the mistake of showing me the fabric…I’m in…
I’ve never taken an on-line class – and this year I have decided to take the BOM class at Craftsy.com. The class is free and is taught through video and interactive questions and answers with the teacher. What I really like about it is that it is also a techniques class – and I am looking forward to learning some new things.
Embroidery has always been something that I have enjoyed – but, have never known much about the stitches other than the simple ones- so, I’m going to be learning by taking another on-line class called Take a Stitch Tuesday. Each Tuesday a new stitch will be shown and we can practice it during the week. Think it will be fun.
The agenda this year calls for trying to knit 12 pair of socks!!!! That’s a pair a month…Plus some other knitting as well. Maybe even get some weaving in this year…
That about covers the reading and crafty part of my life for the coming year…What are you planning on doing????

Renny’s Quilt…

When we lived in Tennessee, I was fortunate enough to make a most wonderful friend. Her name is Renny and she is a quilter just like I am. She shared many hours with me learning amazing things from her…she is the one who taught me how to use the pressure cooker canner to can chicken. She encouraged my quilting! And, she joined the quilt guild when I was president. She became one of my best friends. We are still in contact.
This year, Renny, entered and was accepted to display a quilt in Paducah…one of the most prestigious places to enter a quilt. This is her quilt:
I guess we can add the words extremely talented to her resume.
It won Viewer’s Choice!
Congratulations, my friend!!!

The Soo-Nipi Quilt Guild Show! Yep…Inspiration! No doubt about it…

I didn’t take photos of all the quilts – but ones that for some reason or another inspired me…
Beautiful – just beautiful. I’ve always wanted to do a quilt that was applique on top of a pieced background. This person did a beautiful job of machine applique on the Poppies.
A very different quilt – loved it…
Now I consider these art quilts…the bottom one is stunning!
Lots of color – oh, how I love color!!!
This little wall hanging has the most beautiful and tiny embroidery on it…the is a rendition of the quilter’s home. I thought it was lovely!
I love buttons – and this quilt is embellished with buttons – so pretty…
And this quilt just made me happy! It is a lovely wall hanging. I loved it – so simple - so simply quilt - so lovely! I actually voted for it as my choice for Viewer Choice.
Monday…

Today was spent at a birthday party this afternoon. It was for Jimmy – one of the residents here. He served some really good lasagna … and a few people brought some covered dishes – so there was plenty to eat along with cake and ice cream. His mother made the cake and she is an awesome baker. My gift was a nice skein of wool yarn – in a chunky weight and size 11 needles – 16 inch circulars so he can make himself a hat. He loves to knit…
Then tonight was my Cornish Quilter Guild – it was fun to get back to the group. I haven’t been attending the meetings lately…but am back there too.
We had a fat quarter exchange – you could bring up to 10 – and then we went around the table and got to pick one (each of us in turn) until we had picked one for each one that we brought…I took eight – so, I got eight new fat quarters! It’s a great way to get new fabric without spending any money…(If you use your stash to pick the fat quarters that you take!!!!)
It was fun to see some old friends – and enjoyed the evening…plus there was a bonus – one of our members, Cathy, just had a baby eight weeks ago – and she brought Daniel by to see us. He’s adorable!
Quilt Guilds…

Last night I didn’t get home in time to head out to my Cornish Quilt Guild…but, today I managed to get to the guild that meets at Four Pines Quilt Shop.
We made pillowcases tonight – they are donated to our local homeless shelter at Christmas time. One of our members showed up with five cases already done. Another member sent two. And, we made 17 during our two-hour meeting! So we have a total of 24 so far.
Yesterday, I went to the ENT doctor – and my date for allergy testing is August 16th. I can’t wait.
